Geek it out!

Hell sure froze over as CM Punk made his triumphant return to WWE at this year’s Survivor Series. The idea of him reemerging in the same company he walked out on nearly a decade ago seemed like a pipe dream to many of us but lo and behold, the “Best in the World” is finally back and he’s back home.

His shocking exit from AEW following the All In PPV in London last August sparked major speculation about his wrestling future and where he’s headed next. TNA? NJPW? Retirement? Nobody knew at the time.

Obviously, WWE was a no-brainer but the prospect, as exciting as it was, still didn’t cross my mind until they began dropping references almost on a weekly basis. They even played the entire thing up on social media ahead of Survivor Series, sending wrestling fans into a frenzy.

Punk’s entire run with AEW was a hit-and-miss and while his Rampage: The First Dance debut undoubtedly shook the business to its very core, it didn’t quite resonate with me and it’s something I totally expected.

You see, I always knew deep down where I wanted to see Punk should he decide to go back to wrestling and that’s WWE. Call me a tribalist or whatever, but him wrestling elsewhere just for the sake of returning to his roots won’t be enough to scratch my itch.

Now, I won’t be a hypocrite and say I wasn’t anticipating his AEW jump just like everyone else but after seeing it, it just didn’t click.

Sure, the matches and segments he had were all pretty solid but I still believe he did his best work in WWE, PG restrictions aside.

His promo on RAW may not have been everyone’s cup of tea but to me, it’s actually quite telling. This is the CM Punk we’re getting now and he’s determined to start with a clean slate.

I do have to say that the segment was way too short (apparently due to time constraints) but to Punk’s credit, he still made it work and the beauty of it is, it left us wanting more.

Of course, there’s still a bit of skepticism within the wrestling community on whether or not Punk will eventually return to his “old ways” but I’m holding out hope that what he said Monday night was actually true. Nevertheless, I believe we’re in for a generational run.

    It’s clobberin’ time, baby!

  • September 30th was truly one for the books. A full year after I unexpectedly caught the K-fever (well, not exactly considering I still only listen to one artist and barely keep tabs on shows), I saw TWICE perform during the Philippine leg of their 5th World Tour and it easily made it to my 2023 highlight reel. Why shouldn’t it?

    Waiting game.

I’m only writing about this now which is super late, I know, but it still feels quite surreal how me and my fiancée (who, by the way, got me falling down the rabbit hole in the first place) were able to see Nayeon, Jeongyeon, Momo, Sana, Jihyo, Mina, Dahyun, and Tzuyu in the flesh.

Unfortunately, Chaeyoung wasn’t able to perform due to health-related concerns which was kind of a bummer, but only because we would have loved to see them complete.

    The RTB stage was massive!

Dishing out most of their hits and then some, we witnessed firsthand exactly how good they were. I was in complete awe, just thinking to myself the entire time ‘man, they really earned their stripes as one of K-pop’s girlbosses’.

When I was getting into the group, I initially picked Jihyo as my main bias. She was a complete standout and somehow reminded me of myself in a way.

Months passed and I would discover how alluring each of them were and it wouldn’t take long for Dahyun to become one of my new favorites.

    ANGHANG ANGHANG!

The biggest surprise, however, came during the concert itself when Momo pretty much “wrecked” the heck out of me without warning.

“Dancing Machine” herself noticed us twice (three times if you’d count the show’s closing moments with Jihyo) and gave us nothing but fan service galore.

I was squealing like a little baby and it took me weeks or maybe a full month even to get over it. Just ask the people around me.

    Our shining light. Yup.

Dubu also came through and made me “feel special” (lol) as we exchanged finger hearts after she saw my banner and that felt incredibly gratifying.

We saw both nights of TWICE’s Ready to Be concert and all the money spent was totally worth every second of it. Let’s just say those girls sent this fanboy home in a state of sheer euphoria.

But if I’m gonna be honest, while the second show was still pretty solid overall and had its moments, it pales in comparison to how magical Day 1 was. That’s just me.

My PCD (post-concert depression) still kicks in every now and then, especially when I put their music on blast so hopefully, TWICE thinks we’re worthy enough for an encore show sometime in 2024. Fingers crossed!

Anyway, that’s all for now. Sharing some of the photos I took during Day 1. TWICE, come back sooner! 🫶

  • I’m Bri, the Guy with Four Eyes. I’ve been meaning to get this site going for quite some time now. Thought it’s about time I put my geekery to good use because, why not, right?

I’ve been in the media space for seven years and it only makes sense for me to use this avenue to share my love and passion for all things pop culture — music, movies, television, wrestling, you name it.

    Come geek out with me!
