The fine folks at Disney certainly made good choices (ha!) when they decided to give ‘Freakier Friday’ a go-ahead. The film is a love letter to fans of the 2003 original who have been asking for a freakquel.

Dripped in unforced sentimentality, ‘Freakier Friday’ is just as delightful and endearing as the first one, if not more chaotic. It delivers a fresh take on the body-swapping madness while deliberately (and befittingly) retaining the things that made its predecessor work. Loved the cameos and callbacks!
Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis are an absolute delight to watch together. Their chemistry as Anna and Tess Coleman is still as electric as ever, and every moment they share on screen feels like a comforting hug. Curtis, in particular, is a bona fide scene-stealer and hasn’t lost her comedic touch.
They also share a genuine rapport with Julia Butters and Sophia Hammons, who, despite being newcomers, just fit right into the wacky Coleman household. My initial concerns about the four-way switcheroo being complicated were unfounded.
Manny Jacinto also shines in his role, and if this doesn’t land him more opportunities in the rom-com genre, I don’t know what will. Dude just oozes “leading man” energy.
Overall, ‘Freakier Friday’ captures the spirit of the original with its perfect blend of humor and heart. An entertaining flick that will not only tickle your funny bones but tug at your heartstrings. I had a blast watching it, and a rewatch is surely recommended.
Legacy sequels, for the most part, are quite tricky to pull off, but ‘Freakier Friday’ will leave you utterly charmed. It’s more than just nostalgia bait. Also, blooper reels have made a comeback, baby!
Now, the next logical move is to give us ‘Freakiest Friday’, right? Just don’t make us wait another 20 years, please.
#FreakierFriday is still showing in Philippine cinemas on its second week! Don’t miss out! #FreakierFridayPH
